“Rock ‘n’ roll has become shopping music. When we had vinyl, for instance, we all took it really seriously from the unwrapping of the vinyl to the playing of the record. It was a ceremony in its own right. There was more of a sense the importance of the art. Music is a bit devalued now.” Nick Mason (Pink Floyd).
Former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman will play ‘Cosmo’s Factory’ and ‘Green River’ at New York shows
The legendary songwriter will be playing both albums in full at two Beacon Theater shows in November.
The albums — originally released in 1969 and 1970 — feature some of the most iconic CCR songs. The title-track and ‘Bad Moon Rising’ are the most well known hits from ‘Green River’, while ‘Up Around the Bend’ and their cover of ‘I Heard it Through the Grapevine’ are some of the hits featured on Cosmo’s Factory.
Fogerty will play Cosmo’s Factory and select hits from his solo back catalogue on 17 Nov, and Green River with an additional set of hits on 18 Nov. He’ll also bring Cosmo’s Factory to Caesar’s in Atlantic City on 20 Nov.
The 1984 cult rockumentary has been voted the best comedy movie of all time in a poll organized by Time Out Magazine
The Rob Reiner’s movie, took the Number One spot above Airplane!, in second, and Monty Python’s Life Of Brian, which came third. “It’s sublimely funny and sharp – a comedy built for the long haul which matures with each viewing,” says Time Out critic David Jenkins. “It’s so perfectly constructed and performed, the characters so rich and realistic, that it’s initially a challenge to determine the dividing line between reality and fiction.”
Time Out’s top ten
1. This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
2. Airplane! (1980)
3. Mony Python’s Life of Brian (1979)
4. Annie Hall (1977)
5. Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
6. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)
7. Withnail And I (1987)
8. Groundhog Day (1993)
9. Some Like It Hot (1959)
10. The Jerk (1979)
Promotion for the band’s new remasters will be launched over the old Battersea Power Station on Monday
If you happen to be passing by south London on Monday during the day then swing past Battersea Power Station and you will see Pink Floyd‘s inflatable pig flying high as EMI launches the ‘Why Pink Floyd?’ campaign, during which their entire back catalogue is remastered and reissued.
Differing from the original 1976 floatation, Monday’s event will see the Pig fly at the north end of Battersea Power Station next to the river. Sadly, two weeks prior to the event the original neoprene glued pig was officially declared not airworthy and a brand new high frequency welded PVC replica Pink Floyd Pig has been made for the occasion.
Unfortunately, the remaining members of Pink Floyd will not be able to attend the event.
On 26 September, EMI Music release all 14 Pink Floyd studio albums remastered as brand new “Discovery Editions” on CD and available digitally. All 14 studio albums will also be available as one Discovery Box Set. The same day will see the release of Immersion (2CD) and Experience Editions (6 Disc) of The Dark Side of The Moon, extended to feature unreleased music from the Pink Floyd archives.
Wish You Were Here Experience and Immersion editions and A Foot In The Door – The Best of Pink Floyd follow on 7 November. The Wall Immersion and Experience editions will be released on 27 February 2012.
Journey‘s Greatest Hits 2, a brand-new collection of original recordings by the mega-platinum band, will be available as a single CD, digital download, and special gatefold double-vinyl edition starting November 1, 2011. In conjunction with the double-LP version of Greatest Hits 2, Journey’s original Greatest Hits, one of the top-selling American rock albums of all time with worldwide sales in excess of 25 million, will also be issued as a gatefold double-vinyl edition on the same day. Each double-vinyl edition includes a code for a free digital download of the vinyl remastered album.
“I’m very excited to be releasing this compilation,” said Neal Schon. “Many of these songs were written in our earlier days by Steve Perry and myself, and hearing them again brings back great memories. “Little Girl” has an extra special meaning for me because it’s one of the songs my father, who worked with us for many years, worked on with us. All our songs have stood the test of time, and I hope our fans will enjoy this collection.”
